The Nation, 04 February, 2000

NOBEL Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi has asked East Timorese leaders to visit her in Burma, saying she has many issues she would like to discuss with them.

In a recent interview with The Nation, Aung San Suu Kyi praised East Timor leader Xanana Gusmao and de facto Foreign Minister Jose Ramos Horta. She expressed optimism that the two would build a free and just society for the former Portuguese colony that voted overwhelmingly for independence last August.
